Wāḥidī Nīshābūrī and the Virtues and Traditions of the Ahl al-Bayt (as) in al-Wasīṭ (Functions and Credibility)

Abstract

The use of Islamic sects from each other's hadiths or transmitting hadiths with the central theme of others' concerns has been one of the concerns of their scholars in different Islamic centuries and has had ascendancy throughout history. Wāḥidī Nīshābūrī is one of the influential exegetes of the 5th/10th century who has brought about the virtues of the Ahl al-Bayt (as) and transmitted hadiths from them. This article has been achieved with a descriptive-analytical approach that he has achieved in drawing the space for the revelation of verses, recognizing the virtues of verses, apparent verses, and sometimes expressing examples that fall within the circle of verses. An analysis of his interaction with these hadiths shows that he usually considers such hadiths authentic unless it contradicts the fundamental principles of his belief or contradicts the remarks of the majority of exegetes. In this case, either the narration related to the application of the verse of purification to the Ahl al-Bayt (as) prefers other narrations or the narration related to the recitation of Surah Bara'at (Q. 9) by Imam Ali explains its lack of implication for their superiority.
