The Holy Quran, as the incorruptible document of Islam, has been entrusted with its interpretation by the Prophet (PBUH) and the Ahlul Bayt (AS). Given the phenomenon of fabrication of hadiths in interpretative narrations, it is essential to verify the validity of these narrations, especially in controversial issues such as Khums. This research, using an analytical-descriptive method, examines the interpretive narrations following verse 41 of Surah Anfal regarding the ownership of Khums and analyzes the differences between the two sects through a comparative study. The findings show that out of the ten narrations examined in Imami sources, four are authentic in terms of chain of transmission and implication. These narrations indicate that the ownership of Khums initially belongs to God, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and the Ahlul Bayt (AS), and its distribution among the uses of the verse is done at the discretion of the Imam. This view is in contrast to the popular Sunni view that considers khums to be limited to spoils of war and interprets dhaul-qarbi to include all relatives of the Prophet. Comparing these findings with the popular Sunni view – which considers spoils of war to be limited to spoils of war, dhaul-qarbi to be general, and khums to be a direct distribution – showed that the difference is not merely jurisprudential but has its roots in theological foundations.
