Abstract
The quoted prayer “O’ Lord, I acknowledge that I, as a human being, experience frustration just like any other individual. Similarly, I also experience happiness, as is common to human kinds,” found in Sunni’s book holds significant importance as a fundamental statement for theological knowledge among Sunnis and serves as one of the fundamental principles regarding prophethood. The theme and exoteric interpretation of this prayer have been acknowledged by Sunni theologians, with some focusing on its literal meaning. Additionally, some theologians have attributed the concepts of contentment and wrath to the Prophet and extended them to the general population, resulting in the theological belief in the Prophet’s infallibility in matters of revelation. However, it is crucial to note that this attribution has been refuted by many theologians, scholars of hadith, wise individuals, and mystics in terms of its literal interpretation. The purpose of this paper is to thoroughly examine and analyze the aforementioned prayer and the theological interpretations associated with it. Ultimately, the paper aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation and supporting evidence. By conducting an analysis between the Quranic verses and the teachings of the Prophet, and respective saying, this paper concludes that the prayer lacks profound evidence and is deemed unacceptable in terms of its literal interpretation, content, and the theological implications drawn by the Sunnis.
