Sulfurous waters, recognized as natural resources with specific therapeutic properties, have been of interest since ancient times. However, the conflict between contemporary scientific findings and narratives regarding the use of these waters highlights the necessity for a comprehensive study to analyze this issue. This research, employing a documentary analysis method and examining religious narratives alongside scientific data, aims to pr. An examination of the narratives related to these waters reveals two main approaches among scholars: 1. Absolute acceptance of the prohibition, attributing it to the predominance of harm over benefit, considering the potential harms of these waters; 2. Acceptance of an interpretative approach in which two main interpretations are proposed: interpreting the prohibition as dislike rather than absolute prohibition; interpreting the prohibition as a perspective of seeking healing independent of God Almighty. This study also presents the criterion theory as a comprehensive and logical solution to resolve the conflict between narratives and scientific findings. This theory emphasizes controlled use and the importance of considering the conditions of use and the type of consumption of sulfurous waters. Based on this approach, it is demonstrated through narrative evidence and the practices of scholars that the prohibition in the narratives is limited to the drinking or oral consumption of sulfurous waters, while their topical application falls outside the scope of prohibition. Scientific research also supports this view, as topical use of sulfurous waters is effective and safe in treating skin and joint diseases, whereas oral consumption can lead to complications.
