Jihad and the ethics of warfare represent foundational domains of reflection in Islamic thought—realms that, under the guidance of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), reveal an intrinsically moral, strategic, and spiritual character. Among the hadith corpus, the ninth narration from the chapter “The Will of the Prophet (PBUH) and the Commander of the Faithful (AS) in Military Campaigns” in al-Kāfī occupies a distinguished position. This narration comprehensively articulates behavioral principles for Muslims engaged in battle. Adopting an analytical-critical approach grounded in the methodology of fiqh al-ḥadīth, this study examines both the chain of transmission (sanad) and the content (dalālah) of the narration. The sanad is scrutinized through established biographical sources, affirming the reliability of both primary transmission routes. The semantic analysis, drawing on narrative linguistics (fiqh al-lughah al-rawā’īyah) and structural hermeneutics, uncovers both explicit injunctions and subtle ethical layers within the text. The findings reveal a coherent structure, directive tone, and multidimensional function: the narration conveys legal commands and moral prohibitions while reflecting the elevated perspective of the Infallible (AS) on the humanistic and God-conscious essence of Islamic warfare.
